Meet your trainer, Christina Wells

I have been involved in training dogs and, coincidentally, diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes since 2013. In 2015, I graduated as a Karen Pryor Academy - Certified Training Partner which started my career in pet dog training.

My experience spans from bespoke puppy raising and training to rehabilitating and training rescue dogs and, of course, scent training, specialising medical alerts.

I have also been at the heart of a dog rescue organisation, matching applicants with suitable dogs and providing dedicated adoption aftercare support to our adopters, and I also work with Edinburgh Dog Behaviour, coaching dog owners how to handle and teach their dogs successfully and thus,  improve their relationships with their pets.

Working with dogs, my interest in Diabetes Alert Dogs understandably spiked quickly - I truly understand the frustrations and fears that come with being a Type 1 Diabetic from my own personal experience of living with the disease. Eventually, I applied to be a client under a large assistance dog charity. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, this did not work out long-term and I found myself researching how to select and train a dog myself.

In 2019, I purchased a Puppy Culture raised Working Cocker Spaniel, my George, who I raised and trained as a Diabetes Alert Dog for myself. I have since learned from different Diabetes Alert Dog trainers and organisations across the World and have loved supporting others in training their own Assistance Dogs.

Wells Trained Assistance Dogs is now an opportunity for owner-trainers to train under my guidance with as much or little support as you require.
